Mother's Food Flavours Breastmilk
So breastfed babies develop a taste for the food their mothers eat?
Any mother who has breastfed her children knows that... so it's not news for us really, although it is always good to see positive news about breastfeeding ;)
In fact, in the past, even before starting solids, each of my children certainly expressed definite preferences for particular flavours in their breastmilk. Say for example I ate strawberries - that went down really well. Now garlic on the other hand and the feeds would be less frequent and on occasion I recall a few yucky faces being pulled!
As they began eating solid foods all three adored bananas which were a staple part of my diet during the time I was breastfeeding. They also enjoyed brocolli and carrots which I also ate a lot when breastfeeding and they've always enjoyed spicy foods such as Indian and Chinese take-aways again no doubt because of my breastfeeding diet!
I must confess though, now that they are older some of the good tastes they enjoyed are wearing off somewhat! My son aged 3 and daughter aged 5 now state a preference for chocolate over vegetables... but then again maybe that's because I devoured Cadbury's Turkish Delight at every chance when I was pregnant!!
Did you notice your children showing a preference for any particular flavours they may have been exposed to in your breastmilk?
