UK working parents could enjoy up to 39 additional days per year with their children

Just in time for the UK’s first National Family Week, which runs from 25th - 31st May 2009, new independent research reveals that working parents could enjoy up to 39 additional days per year with their children if they were able to work flexibly.

The findings come from independent research commissioned by communications company Avaya . ‘Flexible Working 2009’ reflects the attitudes of more than 3,000 workers and reveals that the majority of us would choose to spend time saved by not commuting with our families (56%).

What's more, many of us are even prepared to take a pay cut in return for flexible working privileges.  UK employees surveyed said they would be prepared to take, on average, a 9% cut in their pay and remuneration package to achieve the work/life balance we all crave.

Michael Bayer, president of field operations, EMEA, Avaya, explains that parents need not choose between spending time in the office or with their children:  “Unified communications solutions can help companies to make flexible working easy for employees. This report shows that it provides employees with greater control over their working lives. The reduction in commuting that results has a huge positive impact for the individual – and for businesses that deploy such tactics, there can be significant financial benefits too, as productivity and morale increases.”
