So, the formula companies are at it again. Thanks to one of Tanya's readers over at Motherwear Breastfeeding Blog who pointed out that Enfamil, one of the greatest offenders of misleading information when it comes to marketing their cans of cows' milk, have titled one of their webpages as 'The Breastmilk Formula'.
As we breastfeeding mothers know, formula companies will stop at nothing in their quest to persuade young mothers that formula is as close to breastmilk as the real thing. And if that mean telling blatant lies then that's fine by them.
As a wise man once said, and the formula makers follow to a t, 'Never let the truth get in the way of a good story'
Well, here's the real truth... neither Enfamil (nor any other formula) comes anywhere near to being able to claim they are 'the breastmilk formula'.
Breastmilk is breastmilk is breastmilk! No formula, despite the dishonest claims of the hired marketing teams, will ever come close breastmilk. If there was a breastmilk formula, it would have to be dried breastmilk. Whatever they try to tell us, Enfamil is dried cows' milk. Spot the big moo-ing difference!
Sadly, as Tanya points out, formula companies like Enfamil are directly responsible for an almost two-fold increase in the numbers of people who believe formula is almost as good as breastmilk.
What this means for the formula makers is more customers which equals more money in their great big pockets. What it means for babies, the real victims of their lies, is that they are deprived from all the proven benefits of breastfeeding.
Enfamil is food fit for baby calves.
Breastmilk is food fit for baby humans.
That's the actual truth of the matter!
