Yay, one of my all time childhood favourite tv characters has returned to the small screen (see above) - the Honey Monster! Remember him? He looked like a big cuddly Sugar Puff and his childish behaviour endeared him to many children, including my husband and I. Even today, I still remember chanting his wonderful catch-phrase, "Tell 'em about the honey, mummy!"
Well, now it's time for my children to fall in love with him two - although perhaps not so much a first crush, as a first crunch!
Honey Monster is returning to introduce Honey Waffles, which, if they taste anything like Honey Puffs, are going to be another delightful supper-time treat for our family! Since I haven't had the pleasure of trying them yet, however, I thought I'd share a story about Honey Puffs instead.
When I told my husband I was going to write about the return of the Honey Monster, he recalled the time we bought a box for our then two year old. Now this was a big deal at the time because up until then I'd only bought so-called sensible cereals. However, every now and again I like to do something a little bit crazy, like think, so what if they're really sweet, the children won't be children for very long and well, they're fun, delicious and my mummy used to buy them for me occasionally in childhood and when she did I thought she really was a super mum!
Anyway, we brought our big box of Sugar Puffs home and made the mistake of leaving them in an easily accessible cupboard. You've probably guessed by now but I'll continue! Shortly afterwards we returned to find Tara had opened it and poured the entire contents all over the table - it reminded me of the story of The Little Porridge Pot. Her plate was overflowing, the table was overflowing and Honey Puffs were falling at leisure all over the floor. Poor Tara was probably dreading me, her very own Mummy Monster, seeing the mess she'd made, but to be honest, all I could really do was laugh and scoop up a handful or two and pop them in my mouth!
Speaking of which, if you love to watch a movie with a big bowl of popcorn, why not try it with a bowl of Sugar Puffs (or the new Sugar Waffles), minus the milk, next time. As Tara says these days, "They're very moreish, aren't they mummy?". I think that says it all...
