Whether this is your first born or your third, you want to capture that special time during your pregnancy. Instead of your typical mother and father shots, here are a few other ideas to consider before you get in front of that camera:
Silhouette: A pregnant woman’s silhouette can be one of the most beautiful images. It’s a soft image that evokes a lot of emotion. Wearing a solid, soft color and somewhat fitted outfit, stand in front of natural light, like the light coming from a bedroom window. Pull your hair back off of your face and neck for a more serene shot. Your photographer will know how to shoot this shot.
Cravings: A very cute and fun idea is to take a photograph with a white board or chalk board beside you. In fun handwriting and colors, write how far along you are and what your current food cravings are. This will be a great shot for when the years pass; you can look back and remember the little things like your love for pickles and ice cream.
Before and After: Taking a photo of you and your baby bump in an easy and simply pose, like leaning against a tree. And then once your newborn has arrived take the same photo, but with your child in arms in front of where your bump used to be. This is a very sweet photo you will want to hang on for life and this also makes a great birth announcement for your friends and family.
Names: Remember how difficult it has been trying to decide on a name for your child? Well 20 years from now you may forget what names you almost picked out. Try lying down on a sidewalk and write out 3-4 names that you had trouble deciding on in colorful chalk. Then cross out all the names that you did not choose, leaving your babies name. And who knows, the names that you wanted to name your baby so badly could end up being the names of your future grandchildren.
Second Child: If this isn’t your first child and you want your child to be part of remembering your pregnancy, there are several ideas. Have your first born hugging or patting your belly and let the photograph snap the natural reaction of your child. Another shot is to have your first born bring their favorite toy at the moment, capturing your first born with you and your bump. That toy will be a great reminiscing item in their future. You will be surprised how comfortable children are in front of the camera.
Now don’t be shy and feel free ask your photographer of any special maternity shots ideas they may have. Remember these photos are a snap shot of this precious moment in time, so make it honest and make it you; there is nothing more beautiful than that.
